When I was searching for a divorce attorney, I called between 20 and 30 law offices all over LA County. I found a few different types of law offices. The offices that are honest, but couldn't take my case due to location; but they were willing to offer advice about what I should look for in an attorney. All the honest attorneys said the same thing; "look at the price". They said anything under $300 per hour are likely to drain your accounts by making the divorce take forever, simply because it is easier to get a large paycheck in this way. Anything over $350 an hour are likely more honest because they know they cant keep you on as long. This is what I found with Stolar & Fischer. I don't make a lot of money, so during the time that I was able to afford their services, they not only did an amazing job, but gave me the knowledge that I needed to move on, and never once put my kids last. They were (and are still) their number one priority.
My divorce wasn't going to be easy from the beginning, and I knew it. For about 3 weeks, I spent several days a week speaking to the law office getting a feel for how they worked. Never once did they push me into signing a deal with them. I didn't feel like I was speaking to a sales man, but instead someone that even stated that divorce sucks, and it shouldn't be an easy choice for anyone. Honesty is my life, and that is the only kind of office I could ever work with or pay my hard earned money to.
I have worked with Mrs. Amir (who is no longer there) and Mr. Curtis. Both have an amazing portfolio, and both know their stuff. They don't play games, and are genuine people to work with. Mrs. Amir called me one day when we seemed to be getting nowhere with the other party; who was and is harder to work with than molding hardened cement, and proceeded to tell me that she felt guilty taking my money. She stated that I would be better off on my own, at least until the final hearing. I have since hired them again for another matter, and plan on hiring them again to finish the divorce.
So once again, It may not be your cheapest bet, but this law firm is your best bet. They are honest, trustworthy, compassionate, caring, and far from money hungry attorneys that everyone is always afraid of."
